Inside an L A. Hilltop Moroccan Fantasy by Studio KO

fantasy house

This a private residence, FYI, so don't trespass. I have always been fascinated with fantasy houses from the pages of my favourite novels. The earliest I can trace encountering one such property was rambling through Hearst Castle in California.

Whimsical Fairytale Houses Around the World

Noah's house would cost approximately $12,000/month to rent today—according to an estimate experts at ForRent.com gave Domino. In real life, like in the movie, the Victorian is actually a bed and breakfast, and you can stay there still! The Cherry Tree Inn bed and breakfast sits in Woodstock, Illinois not Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. The spectacular house is worth a stay if you find yourself in that suburb of Chicago.

The Steamer Trunk “Cinematic” Tiny House

I'm sure you recognize this almost 6,000-square-foot home as the home from the 1999 rom-com/drama cult classic starring the late Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles. In 2018, the house went up on the market for $1.6 million. If you find yourself near Seattle and want to pay the home a visit, just remember it's a private residence and to be respectful. Nothing says Christmas spirit like (re)watching A Christmas Story on repeat, but now you can take your love of the movie to the next level. Not only can you go visit the house from the movie, but you can actually stay overnight in it—AND you could stay in Ralphie's room! It's just like an Airbnb but tied to an iconic pop culture relic.

Or you could create a gallery wall of your favourites. Likewise, you can get download options online. You can find tons of options for bedding online inspired by your favourite fantasy book.

I can’t wait until Lockdown is over and we can take a trip down to John’s amazing house. At the very end of this guide, John’s included some links on how to book some of his amazing rooms, plus enchanted experiences. Yet almost more important than the house itself, to Christiansen, who grew up with horticulturist parents on a farm in rural Australia, was bringing back to life seven acres of gardens.

Simply walk up the swirling entryway staircase and into the glass-paneled estate, which comes with a flat kitchen design that makes it easy for your personal robot to clean. The property is an architectural anomaly in Miami’s Upper East Side neighborhood, which is rife with historic Mediterranean Revival and Art Deco–style homes dating from the 1920s to the 1940s. Packed with down-to-earth creature comforts, this three-bedroom, five-bath abode resembling a falcon taking flight is perfect for the sci-fi superhero. And they are guaranteed to make a statement in any room. I’ve left an example below for inspiration. Replica swords are perfect for fans of the medieval fantasy aesthetic. You can see a tiny little waterfall at the back of this Elven Valley book nook. Made from wood and crafted using lazor cutting, they also offer a bookend version. And an option for personalisation – something I don’t often see with book nooks.

It’s the little details that really make this house—the patchwork blanket, the red frame around the window, the cute shingles on the exterior. Now if you wanted to go down the fantasy magical house route, you could research the likes of wizard towers or witches’ covens to see what kinds of interior designs other writers have had. For example, there may be shelves of pots and jars containing potions and ingredients. In this post, I share dreamy fantasy decor ideas to transform your home into a fantastical oasis inspired by your favourite fantasy books, movies or aesthetic.

Storybook Stone Cottage

When Kate Winslet's character comes from her small cottage in the U.K. Mansion, you could tell she was a little starstruck. This gorgeous 10,324-square-foot home became a tourist attraction for fans of the romantic movie. It features a media room in the finished basement, a pool and spa, paddle tennis court, and rose garden.

Hey Potterheads, you can visit the house that was used as the exterior shots for the home in the first Harry Potter movie. If you want to see the interiors from the movies—including that under-the-stairs "bedroom"—you'll have plan a trip to Warner Brothers Studios in the United Kingdom for a tour. Live like the Jetsons at this three-bedroom, three-bath estate, a real-world throwback to the fictional Skypad Apartments. Only you don’t need a flying car to enter this new-wave home.

What Is A Townhouse?

what is a town house

They’ll require documentation such as tax forms, pay stubs, and more. Once they review and verify your information, they’ll determine whether to approve you for a mortgage. If they do, they’ll let you know your mortgage options and terms. When considering the cost of a townhouse, remember to include HOA fees in your budget. Are you thinking of renting an apartment soon, but feeling overwhelmed by the sheer number of options available? You may have heard about townhouses before and are wondering what they entail.

What is a Townhouse?

They are two or three stories tall and look alike from the outside. Many have front and back yards, while others have private parking. Despite the potential fees and living in close quarters with neighbors, townhomes remain a popular housing choice, especially among first-time home buyers. Townhomes are typically more affordable than detached single-family homes. Homeowners may also have access to amenities like clubhouses, swimming pools, fitness centers and other common areas. With shared exterior walls and many close neighbors, many townhome owners enjoy the built-in community a townhome provides.

Townhouse vs Condo

what is a town house

With so many options available, such as apartments, detached homes, and townhouses, it can be challenging to decide which type of housing is the right fit for you. A rowhouse is where there is a continuous roof and foundation, and a single wall divides adjacent townhouses, but some have a double wall with inches-wide air space in between on a common foundation. A rowhouse will generally be smaller and less luxurious than a dwelling called a townhouse. Whether a townhouse is right for you will depend on your unique circumstances and preferences. Buying a townhome can be a good move for first-time homebuyers or those looking to save money.

You can expect townhouses to appreciate similarly to other properties. They are a popular housing choice among a significant percentage of the population. Potential buyers also need to factor in the monthly HOA fees. Like other properties, they will have a property tax assessment and homeowners insurance costs. The price of a townhouse varies depending on several factors, including the location, size, amenities, and condition.

Townhouses in an HOA

Even something such as painting your front door may need approval. On the other hand, if you have a house, you’re fairly free to do whatever you’d like (provided you get any needed permits). Most townhouse developments have amenities such as basketball and tennis courts, a large in-ground pool, and/or a recreation/fitness center. If you own a house, any amenities you want will have to be added and maintained on your own, assuming there’s enough room to add them. A regular house may or may not be larger than a townhouse when it comes to interior square footage, but with a house, there’s often more exterior space and room to expand.

What is The Difference Between a Townhouse and a Condo?

A board of owners is then elected to oversee the homeowners association. If you purchase a townhouse that is part of an HOA, you are automatically required to pay dues and officially become a member. You will be invited to vote for the board of directors, including maintaining and caring for all shared amenities, collecting fees, and enforcing rules. Townhouses are most notable for their attachment to its neighbor. Every townhouse shares a "party wall." A party wall is defined as a shared wall between two separately owned residences.

Townhouse vs. House: What's the Difference?

It's ideal that you speak with multiple lenders and compare your options. It's also an excellent idea to prequalify with several lenders to see what different loan amounts you could potentially be approved for. Townhouses originated in London and Paris in the 1600s and eventually came to the cities of North America - Boston, Philadelphia, and New York. In 202, townhouses comprised 11 percent of single-family new construction, down from nearly 14 perfect in 2008, according to the National Association of Home Builders. Then, in 2021, the number of new-build townhouses increased by over 28 percent over the previous year.

What’s the difference between a townhouse and a rowhouse?

Make sure you’re comfortable with the HOA rules — and the financial commitment — before you go ahead with a purchase in any community. Finding a place to live in New York City isn't always easy, but for those who can afford it, the city is filled with hidden and iconic gems — including one that's about as "New York, New York" as they come. Frank Sinatra and Mia Farrow's former home, a 19th century townhouse on the Upper East Side, is now up for grabs. Before investing in a townhome, deciding whether this kind of lifestyle will fit your needs is vital. Unfortunately, many buyers who have previously owned homes purchase townhomes and end up disappointed.

Finally, a townhouse's location, size, and style can impact construction duration.Builders usually do not build townhouses one at a time. So on average, it can take seven months or more to create a townhouse. And their best-fit answer will include all of your local variables. Second, enlist what you wish to have outside of your house and in the community. Make a list of features in a "must have," "good to have," or "don't care'' style. Consider parking slots, lawn maintenance, community pool, monthly fees, neighbor noise, restrictions, obligations, etc. Yet, contrary to what many people were thinking, their popularity is growing again.

A townhouse is a type of multi-level residential housing usually vertically attached to similar units. Townhomes are often found in urban areas and offer a more affordable alternative to detached single-family homes. They typically have multiple floors, with bedrooms and living spaces spread across different levels.

A townhouse is a combination of a single-family home and a condo. It’s a happy medium for certain people in the housing market. After you’ve found the right townhouse for your needs, make an offer (with the help of your real estate agent, if you have one).

Now, a selection of this ever-growing trove from yesteryear will appear stateside for the first time at Demisch Danant in New York. Beginning April 24, standout creations will be aptly displayed alongside the gallery’s French Pop exhibition before moving to the Christofle Bleecker Street boutique a week later. Sometimes row houses and townhouses are used interchangeably as well. A rowhouse will line a street in a row, whereas townhouses can be grouped or separated within a development. Here are some of the standard rules with homeowners’ associations. Finding out if you can stomach the requirements when buying a townhome will be imperative.

A townhome, also known as a townhouse, is a type of residential building. It shares walls with other similar units in a complex or row. Townhomes typically have multiple floors, often including a garage on the ground level. Townhouses are a style of multi-floor home that share one to two walls with adjacent properties but have their own entrances. In the suburbs, townhouses are often uniform homes built in a distinct community that might have its own homeowners association.

"Once owned by the legendary Frank Sinatra himself during his marriage to actress Mia Farrow," the listing says. "...Held within the family since Sinatra's tenure, this distinguished townhouse presents a rare opportunity for restoration and renewal in the Treadwell Farm Historic District." What is a Townhouse? What You Need to Know

In general, the cost can range anywhere from $200,000 to $800,000. You may wonder how to find townhouses you might be interested in. Townhomes are sometimes referred to as townhouse apartments because they share a wall similar to an apartment. Usually, condos are situated in more significant buildings with many floors. There will probably be many condos in each of these large buildings, which the occupant can rent or own.

Tips for First-Time Home Buyers

The real estate agent may be able to set up alerts so you don't miss any new listings on the market. A good real estate agent will know the local market and help you navigate locating townhomes for sale, understand market value and make an offer. They may know of townhomes not yet listed on the market or be able to help you identify areas of growth. How long it takes to build a townhouse relies on several factors. Then we need to evaluate factors like labor and materials availability.

Learn more about how to figure out how much you can spend on a mortgage and use our home affordability calculator here. Also keep in mind that your costs will vary depending on if you choose to buy or build a townhouse. It's a big contrast with buying a condo, which involves a much higher level of vetting; for instance, the lender will usually want to inspect the complex’s finances, not just the home buyer’s.

Should I rent or buy a townhouse?

Condos also tend to be smaller than townhouses, though they typically provide more shared amenities like fitness centers or swimming pools. It’s important to consider location, amenities, and ownership responsibilities, like HOA fees, when looking for a townhouse. Doing so will help you find a property that fits your needs, budget, and lifestyle.

They tend to be an excellent option for folks who don’t want to spend time making improvements and repairs to their houses. A condominium is similar to an apartment in that it’s an individual unit residing in a building or community of buildings. But unlike an apartment, a condo is owned by its resident, not rented from a landlord. Sometimes, townhouses have fancy upgrades that you can’t afford in a detached house. You can get hardwood floors and stainless steel appliances, and modern energy-efficient features that go beyond the expectations of homeowners.

For instance, townhouses can have common areas like tennis courts, pools, golf courses, etc. It’s the responsibility of HOA to ensure residents enjoy every aspect of the neighborhood. Generally speaking, homeowners are responsible for the front and backyard.

It should be noted that townhouses and townhomes are interchangeable words with the same meaning. The increased popularity is thanks to buyers looking for low-maintenance homes near amenities they can walk to and offer better value. When you buy a condo, the agency backing your mortgage loan — Fannie Mae, for instance — must approve or “warrant” the building or community before it’ll sign off on financing. When it does, it’ll likely be at a higher interest rate than you’d get with a house or townhouse.

You can spot the houses by checking for units connected for one or both sides. Unlike a condo, townhouse homeowners have more freedom how to use their space. One of the major differences between townhouse living and apartment living has to do with your neighbors. In townhomes, you are less likely to have anyone above or below you, making noisy neighbors sometimes less of an issue than in a traditional apartment. To search for townhomes in your desired location, you can look online on sites like Zillow or other home listing sites and also search the multiple listing service (MLS) with your real estate agent.

Homes May Be Right for You If:

On the other hand, townhomes are defined as single-family dwellings that happen to share walls with another home (or two homes) but are considered more private than condos. Both housing options are considered individual dwellings that are located within a larger complex. Apartment buildings and townhouse complexes also often provide residents with shared spaces and amenities, like a gym or outdoor area. Townhomes can be rented or individually owned, have their own entrances and may include some outdoor space as well. This type of home may also be part of a homeowners association (HOA), a private organization that oversees the management of some residential communities. Complexes with an HOA usually have additional fees, which can potentially range between $100 and $1,000 per month.

In the latter case, the individual floors are broken into individual apartments and rented out. Many historic townhouses that were built to house one family have been divided up this way. In addition, detached homes offer far more privacy than either townhouses or row houses.

This fee may also cover the cost of trash removal, snow removal, and other services. Additionally, townhouses are often located in desirable locations that are close to shopping, dining, and entertainment. For example, if you choose to live in Sacramento, for instance, purchasing a townhouse may be a great option since they are relatively affordable and provide a low-maintenance lifestyle. Condominium townhouses, just like condominium apartments, are often referred to as condos, thus referring to the type of ownership rather than to the type of dwelling. Since apartment-style condos are the most common, when someone refers to a condo, many erroneously assume that it must be an apartment-style dwelling and that only apartment-style dwellings can be condos. All types of dwellings can be condos, and this is therefore true of townhouses.

what is a town house

In other words, it’s fine to refer to your new side-by-side duplex outside Denton, Texas, as a townhouse. The concept of the townhouse traces back centuries to the Old World, particularly in England and France. We are an independent, advertising-supported comparison service. As recounted by People magazine, the couple met in 1964 when Farrow was 19 and Sinatra was nearly 50. They got married in Las Vegas in 1966, but the marriage only lasted two years.

Townhomes can also be built in rows, but they’re more likely to be divided into smaller sections or groupings. It’s better to find a home based on how much home you can afford instead of falling in love with a home you can’t afford. So if you need a mortgage to finance a townhouse, it’s a good idea to start shopping around and comparing your options from multiple mortgage lenders early on in the process. Consider prequalifying with several lenders to see what loan amounts you could potentially get approved for and to narrow down your choices.

But if you need more space or don’t want to share walls with your neighbors, you might want to consider other options. A townhouse (also called a townhome) is generally one unit with at least two floors in a row of many that shares either one or two walls with another unit next to it. It can also share other features like yards and amenities, though it typically comes with its own entrance. This type of home is usually smaller than traditional single-family homes, too.

“In recent days, there has been progress in talks,” she told reporters at the White House. When Israel withdrew all its troops and citizens from Gaza in 2005, it handed power there to the Palestinian Authority. In 2007, Hamas seized power in Gaza in a short and brutal civil war, dividing the Palestinians not only territorially, but politically. Mr. Blinken also called on Hamas to commit to an agreement to release some civilian hostages in exchange for a temporary cease-fire and the liberation of scores of Palestinian prisoners. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken visited a warehouse in Jordan on Tuesday where workers were loading trucks for the first attempt to send medical and food aid overland from Jordan to the Israel-Gaza border crossing of Erez.

Israel’s bombardment of Gaza has deepened support for Hamas in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, where the Palestinian Authority — controlled by Fatah — has administered cities and towns for decades. They joined some Palestinians who have begun to flee, once again, this time leaving Rafah, Gaza’s southernmost city, before a widely anticipated Israeli attack. Hauntworld created a video series many years ago called 'Hauntworld The Movie' and now all the movies which document the haunted house industry from the 1990's are finally uploaded. In those years, I heard of this haunt that was multiple stories high; it took almost an hour to walk through, had 100 actors inside, live animals, separated you from your party and things grabbed you and touched you. And now…Erebus is four stories, three up and one down, it’s over a half-mile walk inside the building that takes about 45 minutes. We’ve had live animals and also simulated them, we separate people from their parties temporarily and we have things that will grab you, bite you, land on top of you and then, to finish you off-we bury you alive. Karine Jean-Pierre, the White House press secretary, expressed a hopeful view of the prospects for an agreement.

But Israeli officials have said that negotiators had reduced the number of hostages they want Hamas to release during the first phase of a truce, opening up the possibility that the stalled negotiations could be revived. On Tuesday, Mr. Blinken met with officials in Jordan to discuss the war between Israel and Hamas, and to press for peace and an increase in humanitarian aid. There was no immediate reaction from the State Department to Mr. Netanyahu’s remarks. One visitor on a popular review site raved about the “intense and heart-pounding experience,” noting that Erebus exceeded their expectations in terms of both scares and entertainment value.

And that kind of power-sharing would require more compromise than currently seems possible. Fatah and Hamas met in late February in Russia without any apparent progress toward a unified government.

He praised the start of the new aid corridor and also said a pier being built by the U.S. military to bring aid by sea to coastal Gaza would be operational in about one week. He said more than 5,000 trucks of food, medicine and other goods have entered Gaza since then, with about 200 more trucks a day and sometimes as many as 400. In anticipation of an offensive, some families in Rafah have been moving north into areas of Gaza that had already been attacked by Israeli forces, but on Tuesday, the scale of the evacuation remained unclear. As of last week, more than one million Gazans, many of them previously displaced from other parts of the territory by Israeli bombardment, were still sheltering in the city in makeshift tents. “The idea that we will halt the war before achieving all of its goals is out of the question,” the Israeli premier told relatives of hostages on Tuesday.

Fern from Charlotte's Web costume Megan Nielsen Patterns Blog

Fern often sits on a stool, listening to the animals' conversation, but over the course of the story, as she starts to mature, she begins to find other interests. Charlotte’s Web, classic children’s novel by E.B. White, published in 1952, with illustrations by Garth Williams. The widely read tale takes place on a farm and concerns a pig named Wilbur and his devoted friend Charlotte, the spider who manages to save his life by writing about him in her web. This Charlotte’s Web Fern costume for women celebrates the timeless tale of friendship, compassion, and the magic of life’s simple moments. Step into the world of Zuckerman’s farm with grace and relive the heartfelt story that has touched generations of readers.

Why is Charlotte’s Web important?

Although this novel was written for and is still primarily read by children, it’s loved by readers of all ages around the world. As the summer passes, Charlotte ponders how to save Wilbur and comes up with a plan. Reasoning that Zuckerman would not kill a famous pig, Charlotte weaves words and short phrases in praise of Wilbur into her web. Charlotte weaves the words Some Pig into the web, and the next morning, the farmhand Lurvy sees the web and runs to find Mr. Zuckerman. This makes Wilbur, and the barn as a whole, into tourist attractions, because many people believe the web to be a miracle.

Experts in Literature

However, she visits him in Homer Zuckerman's barn often and even stays with him at the fair. Charlotte is a grey spider with a white streak on her back, is one of the main characters in E.B. Throughout the story, Charlotte and her friends Wilbur the pig, Templeton the rat, and the rest of the barnyard animals teach readers valuable lessons about friendship, loyalty, and the importance of being kind to each other. After a little girl named Fern Arable pleads for the life of the runt of a litter of piglets, her father gives her the pig to nurture, and she names him Wilbur.

Friends / Allies

The novel follows Wilbur, the pig who, when he’s born, is the smallest of his litter. The farmer’s daughter, Fern, saves him and takes care of him until he’s too old to live with the family, and her parents become concerned that she’s spending too much time with animals and not enough time with her peers. He moves into a new home on a new farm and eventually learns a startling fate.

What is Charlotte’s Web about?

While humorous and charming, the novel also contains important lessons. For example, Fern’s caring for Wilbur teaches her responsibility, and she realizes that if she stands up for what she believes in she can make a difference in the world. Charlotte and Wilbur’s friendship, despite their differences in nature, teaches tolerance. As he grows up, like any child, Wilbur learns to cope with fear, loss, mortality, and loneliness. Although a story of life and death, it is also full of warmth, with silly characters such as the geese and the snobby sheep.

Fern from Charlotte’s Web costume

However, Charlotte, being a barn spider with a naturally short lifespan, is already dying of natural causes by the time the award is announced. Knowing that she has saved Wilbur, and satisfied with the outcome of her life, she does not return to the barn with Wilbur and Templeton and instead remains at the fairgrounds to die. However, she allows Wilbur to take with him her egg sac, from which her children will hatch in the spring. Meanwhile, Fern, who has matured significantly since the beginning of the novel, loses interest in Wilbur and starts paying more attention to boys her age. She misses most of the fair's events in order to go on the Ferris wheel with Henry Fussy, one of her classmates. Charlotte’s Web earned critical acclaim upon its release—Eudora Welty notably called it “just about perfect”—and it quickly became a beloved children’s classic.

Oldest Sheep

We know, it's not cool to abandon your friends just because you've met a cute boy. But for Fern, that's pretty much what happens. She's all about Wilbur until one day she gets a little boy crazy. Now that school was over, Fern visited the barn almost every day, to sit quietly on her stool. Every morning after breakfast, Wilbur walked out to the road with Fern and waited with her till the bus came.

What is controversial about Charlotte’s Web?

Life in the barn was very good—night and day, winter and summer, spring and fall, dull days and bright days. Although he loved her children and grandchildren dearly, none of the new spiders ever quite took her place in his heart. It is not often that someone comes along who is a true friend and a good writer.

Complete her costume with a blonde wig and carry a pig plushie. This is one of my favourite Book Week costumes ever, and ticks all the boxes of being useful beyond dressing up. Out of all the costumes I’ve ever made, this one gets the most use as regular clothing. The overalls are so comfy and easy for Birdie to put on that she turns to them basically every weekend. I’m really glad because she is growing so fast that I’m sure she’ll be too tall for them soon.

It’s also discovered that Uncle has won first prize at the fair. Our work is created by a team of talented literature experts, to provide an in-depth look into books, like no other. Although Wilbur is small and naive, he always manages to remain strong and determined in the face of adversity, proving that even though he may not always know what’s going on, he will do whatever it takes to protect his friends. Fern is a little girl who grows up right before our eyes. When it comes to fabric this pattern used so little that it was a great opportunity to use up some of my denim offcuts from past samples.

That being said, I don’t think it’s essential since it’s not featured on the cover art, so opt in or out of this particular item. White is an important work of literature for its timeless and powerful story about friendship, loyalty, and perseverance. It teaches valuable lessons about love and acceptance, as well as the importance of helping those in need and standing up for what is right.

This results in the plan to use Charlotte’s web to write messages to the farm owner. The two protagonists of the story are Wilbur the pig and Charlotte the spider. The former is generally considered to be the most important of the two.

Fern is at that stage where she's too big for dolls, but not big enough to like boys. Wilbur fills a role in her life just when she needs to learn how to stop playing pretend and start growing up. But over time, Fern grows up and changes her tune. You see, there's this boy named Henry Fussy.

B. White and illustrated by Garth Williams; it was published on October 15, 1952, by Harper & Brothers. The novel tells the story of a livestock pig named Wilbur and his friendship with a barn spider named Charlotte. When Wilbur is in danger of being slaughtered by the farmer, Charlotte writes messages in her web praising Wilbur, such as "Some Pig", "Terrific", "Radiant", and "Humble", to persuade the farmer to let him live.

A 17-year-old girl and a woman were in the home on Monday during the shooting and have been cooperating with officials’ investigation, the police said. Chief Jennings said investigators were still piecing together a timeline of what had happened. Larry Mackey, a retired firefighter who lives close to the scene, said in an interview on Tuesday that he believed at least 30 minutes had passed between the first eruption of gunfire and a second burst of shots.

"Today is an absolute tragic day for the city of Charlotte and for the profession of law enforcement," Jennings said during the news conference. "Today we lost some heroes that are out there simply trying to keep our community safe." Eventually, Mr. Hughes left the house, armed with a firearm, and was fatally shot by officers near the front yard, the police said. In addition to the four officers who were killed, four others suffered injuries that were not life threatening.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said Officer Joshua Eyer died Monday night from his injuries. Eyer had served the police department's North Tryon Division for six years, the department added. Marshals task force were pronounced dead, according to Jennings. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police later confirmed that the officer critically wounded in the shooting died at the hospital. After a "long standoff," Jennings said officers cleared the residence and took two people inside the home, including a 17-year-old, into custody for questioning.

The killing of the four officers in a usually quiet eastern neighborhood, where a running gun battle left people scrambling for cover inside their homes, stunned residents and brought anguish across the city. On Monday afternoon, a deputy greeted Ms. Poloche at her home, bearing the news that her husband, a slightly reserved man who loved his two sons, had been shot while serving a warrant in Charlotte. By the time she arrived at the hospital, her husband had died.

Neighborhoods

The authorities shut down the city’s Shannon Park neighborhood, east of downtown, on Monday afternoon after gunfire erupted in order to more easily move victims to hospitals, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department wrote on social media. As the police approached the shooter, Chief Jennings told reporters, the officers were met with more gunfire from inside the home. After a long standoff, two women in the home were taken to a police station to be interviewed, the police later said in a statement. The male suspect exited the residence on Galway Drive with a firearm. Law enforcement officers perceived an imminent deadly threat and fired their service weapons striking the suspect in the front yard of the residence. The primary governmental functions of the city include police, fire, street maintenance, water and wastewater utilities, parks and community development.

The officers were part of the Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force, an operation that draws from 16 agencies, including the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and the state corrections department. “The last few days has been very tough,” Chief Johnny Jennings of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said at a news conference on Tuesday, pausing to collect himself and wipe tears from his eyes. Charlene Middleton, a 36-year-old school counselor, has lived in the area her whole life and, since 2015, in a home across the street from where the incident occurred. When she returned home from work in the evening, she said, she saw casings scattered all over the street, as well as a large police presence. By evening, shelter-in-place orders had been lifted, and yellow crime scene tape sectioned off part of the street where the shooting had occurred.

In addition to Officer Poloche, 42, the victims were identified as Alden Elliott, a 14-year veteran with the State Department of Adult Correction and the father of one child; Thomas Weeks, 48, a deputy with the U.S. Marshals Service and the father of four children; and Joshua Eyer, an officer with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department who had been honored last week as an officer of the month by the city. The CMPD’s Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) began negotiations with other occupants in the house. Two females exited the residence and were transported to the Law Enforcement Center (LEC) in Uptown (601 E. Trade St.) to be interviewed by detectives. "These are people that cared deeply about what they've done for our profession, and now today, we have to say to them how much we are grateful for what they have done," Lyles said. "It was just last month I was in this very room congratulating Officer Eyer for becoming officer of the month in April," Police Chief Johnny Jennings said.

Officer Poloche and three other members of the task force had been fatally shot while serving a warrant on a man who used a powerful AR-15-style rifle to fire waves of rounds at them from the second floor of a house. Four members of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department were also shot, one of whom died from his injuries on Monday night, the police said on social media. The officer, Joshua Eyer, who had been with the department for six years, was helping other officers arrest the suspect when he was shot, the police said.

All conditions were met, and the Charlotte Carnegie Library opened in an imposing classical building on July 2, 1903. In December 2002, Charlotte and much of central North Carolina were hit by an ice storm that resulted in more than 1.3 million people losing power.[68] During an abnormally cold December, many were without power for weeks. Many of the city's Bradford pear trees split apart under the weight of the ice.
